The Letter, C. H. Crane to E. W. Bailey, was written on August 29, 1862 from Charles Henry Crane, Surgeon U. S. Army to Elisha W. Bailey, Surgeon, 47th Pennsylvania Volunteers. In February 1862 Crane was detailed as medical director of the Department of Florida (Key West) then in June 1862 as medical director of the Department of the South. In this letter he instructs Bailey to send Asst. Surgeon Mitchell from Hospital No. 1 on Hilton Head Island to Key West and to appoint a suitable replacement for Mitchell. He also makes reference to the delivery of medical supplies to the hospital.
